A vibrant community destination in one of Australia’s most remote coastal towns has been given a striking new lease on life, thanks to the application of NuTech’s EPiC PolyCryl coating system.
Located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, the Onslow Skate Space has become a standout recreational facility for local residents and visitors alike. Originally designed as a unique skate destination inspired by the region’s landscape and iconic termite mounds, the facility caters to skateboarders, scooter riders, BMX enthusiasts and families of all ages.

By mid-2024, sections of the facility underwent refurbishment and enhancement works, including slab replacement and surface finishing, helping ensure the skate space remains a high-quality community asset for years to come. The Shire of Ashburton tendered works associated with the Onslow Skate Park slab replacement during 2024 as part of the ongoing improvement of the facility.
The project featured the application of NuTech EPiC PolyCryl, a premium acrylic coating system chosen for its durability, UV stability and ability to withstand the harsh conditions experienced in remote Western Australia.
The result is a bold and visually engaging skate environment that transforms large concrete areas into a vibrant landscape of colour and movement, while also providing a tough, long-lasting surface designed to handle constant use.
The Onslow Skate Space is much more than a skate park. The facility includes beginner-to-intermediate skate features, pump-track-style elements, ledges, banks, and social spaces, along with integrated community features such as outdoor games and gathering areas. Community consultation played a significant role in shaping the final design, ensuring the space reflected the needs of local residents.
The refreshed coating design enhances this vision, creating a space that is both functional and visually distinctive. The geometric colour palette complements the surrounding Pilbara landscape while helping define different zones throughout the facility.

For public recreation facilities, coatings need to do more than simply look good.
EPiC PolyCryl provides:
These qualities make it an ideal solution for skate parks, recreation facilities, pedestrian spaces, sporting environments and other decorative concrete applications.

The finished result showcases how colour, design and durable coating technology can completely transform a public space. From the warm Pilbara-inspired tones through to the crisp geometric lines flowing throughout the park, the project demonstrates how coated concrete can create a destination that is both practical and memorable.
As one of Western Australia’s most remote communities, Onslow continues to invest in facilities that bring people together, encourage active lifestyles and create spaces the community can be proud of. The revitalised skate space stands as a testament to that commitment.
